5 Steps to Help you Find Your Confidence

Learn to believe in yourself again

Confidence is something that we all want, but something that we often struggle with. Having confidence in yourself will help you not only to feel better about yourself, but also help you find yourself again. You may feel lost because of all of the changes that you are facing currently. Guess what, she is still there. Yes, that amazing you that you love. It is easy to get caught up in the day to day responsibilities of work and family and forget to take care of yourself. However, in order to believe that you are doing the best that you can and to believe in yourself you need to have confidence in yourself. You need to believe in yourself.

So let’s look a look at what you can do to lower that anxiety.

Let’s start with believing in yourself.

What is confidence?

According to psychologytoday.com

Confidence is a belief in oneself, the conviction that one has the ability to meet life’s challenges and to succeed—and the willingness to act accordingly. Being confident requires a realistic sense of one’s capabilities and feeling secure in that knowledge.

To have confidence means that you believe in yourself. Sounds easy, right? So why is it so hard to do. Why is it hard to believe that you are capable of accomplishing your goals, chasing your dreams,  and doing what you most want to do.. It really shouldn’t be. You are an amazing and awesome lady. Look how far you have gotten. It is time to stop believing the lies and time to remember who God made you to be.

Let’s take a look at 5 different things that you can do to feel more confident in no time!

One – Self Awareness

The ability to see yourself objectively and understand your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. It is the ability to step back and understand your thoughts and your actions. Why you do the things that you do. Self Awareness is understanding what makes you, you.

One way to achieve self awareness is to reflect. Some like to use meditation for this. Another way to reflect is to spend quiet time thinking and journaling about your thoughts. You can write down things about yourself that you like or that you would like to change. Think about the things that are important to you and the things that make you feel good about yourself. Journaling and having time for quiet thought will help you to understand what makes you feel good about who you are.

When you self reflect you are able to understand your limits and how they affect what you are capable of accomplishing. It will encourage you to set goals to achieve the things that you want to be able to accomplish.

Self reflection also means paying attention to our thoughts about ourselves as well as those things which affect us daily. It is important that you use positive self talk, that you do not let negative thoughts enter into your mind and keep you from accomplishing your goals.

Having a healthy self awareness will also help us to build our self esteem. Which leads us to number two…

Two – Self- Esteem

Self Esteem is your evaluation of your own self worth. A healthy self esteem means that in general we tend to have positive thoughts about yourself despite the ups and downs that life will often present.

Having good self esteem will also lead to higher confidence. When you have confidence and you believe in yourself, you will be more likely to go after your goals and accomplish them. You will want to work hard to reach your goals daily, but you need to be able to believe in yourself and believe that you are capable of more than what you think. Again, using positive self talk will help keep you focused on achieving those goals.

If you think of yourself in a more negative way, then you probably have a low self esteem of yourself. In other words you do not have confidence in yourself and what you have to offer. Try taking some simple steps to help build your self esteem.

  • Think about those things about yourself you may not like
  • Focus on the positive things about yourself
  • Work on learning positive self talk
  • Build a positive circle of supportive friends
  • Use positive affirmations to help encourage yourself

It is important that you work to build your self esteem to show and feel your confidence in yourself to others.

Three – Positive Thinking

In order to be able to improve your self esteem and your self awareness you need to learn how to have positive self talk. This is when you speak to yourself in a positive way. You don’t say that you are not able to do things, you say you can. You change the internal monologue in your mind so that it is positive and you state things in a way that you are able to accomplish them, not the opposite.  For example instead of

  • I can’t do that, try I will learn something new
  • That is to hard, try A new challenge will be good for me
  • I am too fat, try Its time to focus and to work on myself
  • I am not smart enough, try I have been wanting to learn something new
  • I’m too busy, try If I try I have time to do this

Four – Visualize Yourself as the Self You Want to Be

Think about this one. How do you see yourself? What is the version of you that you want to live. Picture it in your mind and then work towards that goal.

This is kind of like a personal visualization board. Have you heard of those? They are very popular for work and for goal setting. I want you to think about that for yourself. This means you have to dress the part. Remember that from work circles. You dress for the job title that you want.

Well, in this case you aren’t getting a job, you are working on how you see yourself. You need to work on feeling good about yourself. Here are a few ways to do that.

1 dress nicely – be comfortable, but dress in a nice outfit and do your hair, make this a daily habit

2 work on your friendships – reach out to other people and family to build new or stronger relationships

3 set a goal and work towards it, make time for yourself to do this a little ever day

4 have me time – watch tv, go for a walk, meditate, read, do something for yourself

Five – Help Someone Else

Some may ask, how is helping someone else going to help me feel better? Have you heard that giving is better than receiving? Well, there is always someone who needs your help. Someone who can learn from you. Or someone who also needs a little push to be able to feel better about what they are trying to do.

When we are able to share what we know or our experiences two things happen.

The first is that we grow as people. We become better humans because we have learned from our experiences and have come out stronger and wiser.

The second thing that happens is that we help someone find the light at the end of the tunnel. We help people see and understand that things will get better, that they are not alone, and that they will be ok.

Doing so, will give you a sense of empowerment because you are able to emphasize the part where you know that there is a light and that things get better. That way, if you once again find yourself in a rough patch you are able to come through that too.
