mom•life {n.}: A lifestyle that consists of being a permanent member of #teamnosleep. 24/7/365 career with no paid vacations or sick days, and yoga pants as the uniform. An environment of messy hair, tantrums, and boogies. Success is fueled by caffeine, hugs, kisses, and cuddles. Way of life that  embraces all things chaos. Where a shower is the highest form of victory. The acceptance of a stressed but blessed mentality.

I found this mom definition on nbtthreads.com and I had to laugh. So true. They do have a t- shirt by the way if you would like to check them out. But after reading this, I hope you see why a hobby is so important. If you have been reading you will remember that I have been hoping that all of you moms reading will find time for yourselves. I hope that you will be encouraged to remember that you need to take care of yourselves. Part of this means that you need to find time to do something that you love. Anything will do.

Hobbies can be found in the most simple of things. It can be anything from exercising to reading. Knitting to gardening. Everyone has that one thing that they love to do that they never have time to do. It is always the same excuse no matter who we are. I wish I could find the time to read. I wish I could make time to go to the gym. I wish I had time to weed the garden.

Why do we do this? If anyone in the family has something that they want to do we make sure that we help them find the time. We make sure that they are all ready and have what they need. But when it comes to us, we simply do not have the time. I do this all the time, well until recently. That was when I decided to start working on this blog. I needed to find something that I could do that would help me get my mind off of the day to day. Something to look forward to. My second hobby is knitting. It’s been a while since I picked up the needles but it is quite fun and i look forward to getting back to it.

How can we find time, find more time in the day? Is it even possible? Or is it more of a re prioritizing. In my last post I talked about how I thought it was important to plan your days. See when we have a general idea of what we are doing or what we need to be doing things, tend to be easier to schedule. Its easier to say, hey on Thursday night the kids don’t have anything maybe I could go for a walk. Or maybe I could sign up for that class that I’ve been waiting for.

When we plan we can see things coming up, we can have a hobby, but when we wait and see what happens then it can be too late to plan so we give up. Being a mom is hard. We are constantly juggling things around which is why having an idea of what we are doing is good. It is also why we need this time for ourselves. Time to be able to reorganize, recharge, and regroup our thoughts. I cannot emphasize enough how much you need this. Eventually those batteries will run out and you do not want to be there. You want to be able to always have those batteries charged, so that you can be the best mom that your family needs.

Find time for yourself, get a hobby, relax, and put some of that energy that you give others towards yourself and you will be ok, in fact you will be great!
