No, not the kids bedtimes…YOUR bed times! Yes, I want to talk about mom bed times. I want to talk about how we wind up the day and what we need to do to make your tomorrow better and how to set it up as so. So, this is all about how to set up a great bedtime routine for moms. What are some of the things that we can do to make our night time feel better and remind us that we have accomplished something the day before.
I want you to think of all of the things that you do in the last two hours before bed.I clean the kitchen, think of what the boys have for the next day, I watch tv, write for my blog, check my phone (a lot), I let the dog out. Then I go to bed absolutely exhausted. Recently I decided that getting a puppy was a great idea. And it is, I love him already! But, this means that I am up several times a night. I am not sleeping as I should which means that I get cranky, I don’t get everything done in a day that I need. This is no good. I need to change it and I have been over the things that I am doing over the last few days. I have come up with some ideas on things that I need to do to make my night easier, more relaxing and my morning easier and something I can actually look forward to.
A few months ago, I had gotten into a great routine, but then, life happened. Everything changed. Family life is like that, as I am sure that you know, and sometimes you can jump right in, but other times not so much. Other times try as hard as you can you can not do the things that you need to do.
How do you set up a routine that is helpful to you? I have used the steps below to help me create a great and calming routine for myself.
1 – make a list /go over everything that you need to get done to feel like your day is done.
2 – walk around the house/ make sure that your things are where you need them to be in the morning/ have all of
your kids things set out for the morning/ clean up a little. Waking up to less clutter helps me feel less stressed
3 – check phone/ watch your last tv show and turn everything off.
4 – wash your face/ take a shower/ brush your teeth/ create a relaxing environment for yourself and get comfy in bed.
5 – close your eyes and pray/meditate/think about all the great things that happened that day.
These are some of the easiest and most useful steps that I have seen work, both in my life and in other women who have tried them. Of course with everything else, you may have to change it around a bit to better fit your day to day and your lifestyle, but you should do the best that you can to get it to fit and to work for you.
I know that this is a short post, but it is up to you to be able to fill in the gaps. I hope that these tips will help you to feel more accomplished so that you can get some rest and feel that you were able to accomplish some of your daily goals. Bedtime and the end of the day can be hard. For me it is a very personal time when I am able to catch up for the day and also prepare for the next day. Some people prefer morning routines to bedtime routines, and some simply countdown the minutes to be able to fall into bed and not think of anything else. Each mom is different and has different things that they prefer, so use this list as a guideline and make it your own. Make it something that will help you feel better about yourself and your day!
I really hope that you have enjoyed reading this series. I have had fun writing it and using some of what I have written in my own life. Change is so hard, but is usually is good for us.
